Home | Global Citizenship | Activities ActivitiesInteractive Session: How to be a Global CitizenAKF USA volunteers in major U.S. cities (Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles) are available to schedule presentations to classes, school assemblies, clubs and community youth groups to talk about the ways to get involved in promoting global citizenship. Sessions identify the ways youth in the U.S. can take action and learn more about ending global poverty. The purpose is to encourage students to develop the skills and attitudes to act as global citizens. Students learn how their actions can make a significant difference in the lives of those who live in poor and less fortunate circumstances. Introductory OrientationThe introductory session offers examples of hope and inspiration to demonstrate that development is a worthwhile cause and a valuable investment in the future for our children and grandchildren. The session helps participants develop deeper insight and empathy towards people in countries where incomes are limited, food is scarce, quality education is a luxury and health care is inadequate. The session motivates attendees to envision the ways they can help those that are less fortunate. Through example cases, young people learn how Aga Khan Foundation’s projects have improved lives and empowered many poor communities to find the means to help themselves and make remarkable progress. Trained and qualified AKF USA volunteers conduct presentations periodically for students in middle and upper schools. Presentations can be offered during the regular school hours: during advisory, diversity group meetings or any other times linked with the curriculum. AKF USA volunteers work with the school administration and teachers to determine the best time. The interactive presentations can last for 30-40 minutes or modified to fit scheduled timing. | ||||||||
