The 1999 Partnership Walk theme focuses on this essential human need - Today's Health, Tomorrow's Wealth. By participating and contributing funds at the Partnership Walk, you support AKF USA health programs that promote safe motherhood, immunization, health education and effective health care systems.

These programs:

• Protect children from disabling and life-threatening disease
• Promote children's physical and mental development
• Create self-help programs that help families take better care of their health needs
• Help national health care systems become more effective and efficient For example, health programs in villages in India's Gujarat State have helped improve a mother's chance of safe childbirth. They have achieved a 96% immunization rate for children aged 1 to 5 years, significantly improving their protection from preventable diseases.
